NoteSathi is built to help you learn and remember, not to record people behind their backs. This page explains how to record fairly. It is general guidance, not legal advice: laws differ between countries and states, and you are responsible for following the ones that apply to you.
Classes and lectures
- Ask your teacher or institute before you record. Many allow recording for personal study; some don't. If they say no, respect it.
- Use recordings for your own study. Don't post them online or share them outside your class without permission, and don't share or sell notes made from paid coaching courses.
- If classmates speak in the recording, their voices are in your notes too. Keep the recording private.
Meetings and interviews
- Tell everyone at the start that you are recording and why, and record only if they agree.
- When you choose "Record a meeting", NoteSathi asks you to confirm that everyone knows. It also gives you a message to paste in your group chat:
This conversation is being recorded with NoteSathi to make notes. The recording stays private and is stored in India.
यह बातचीत नोट्स बनाने के लिए NoteSathi से रिकॉर्ड की जा रही है। रिकॉर्डिंग निजी रहेगी और भारत में रखी जाएगी।
- If someone asks you to stop, stop. If someone later asks you to delete the recording, please do.
Phone calls
- NoteSathi does not record phone calls; Android doesn't allow it. Use Call debrief right after a call to say in your own words what was agreed.
- If your phone recorded a call and you import it, make sure the other person knew the call was recorded, where the law requires it.
Never record
- exams, or anything you've been told is confidential;
- private conversations you are not part of;
- people in places where they expect privacy;
- children, without their parent's or guardian's permission;
- anyone who has asked you not to.
Recorded without your permission?
If you think someone recorded you with NoteSathi without your permission, write to our Grievance Officer at contact@turtletechsai.com. Tell us when and where it happened. We will look into it and can remove the recording. We won't share the other user's details with you unless the law requires it, but we will act on the recording.
